I was born in Walla Walla Wa. on April 20th, 1984 to George and Catherine Gillette. I was the third and last child following Mariah, the eldest, and Lora, the shortest. We were raised in Milton-Freewater, Or, and although small, Milton-Freewater was a great place to grow up.
My main interests growing up were playing sports, and drawing. Drawing probably came first, although now I can't really remember. I'll start with it anyway. Most of my early artistic experiences involved drawing on napkins at dinner for my Uncle David, or drawing on the back of' friendship cards' in church with Shane Knox. I think some of those cards are still circulating somewhere. Shane was my best friend, and we seemed to draw about every time we were together. Well, that and filming some Superman stunt shows. These experienced really started me on the artistic path, but it was my oldest sister Mariah who really bolstered my drawing abilities. You see, she is the real artist in the family, and I just couldn't think of anything else to do,
so I copied her. I started by watching her draw Ninja Turtles, and then wemt off to draw and redraw them over and over again. Now, after I had this basic concept of redrawing something until I could do it well, I changed topics. For example, Monster Trucks (with Ryan Kelso), Super Heroes (with Colby Park), and various poop related things (with Mike Hagerman). This summed up my early artistic education.
Now, moving onto my other love, sports. I started baseball very young and later took up basketball in junior high. I was also able to take up football and wrestling when my mother finally allowed. I ended up dropping basketball, mainly because I was short, and not so good, but also because wrestlers, as my friend Kyle told me, got all the chicks. I later found this not to be true. I continued playing sports throughout high school with some minor success and some great memories. Neither were enough to make a career of and so I turned back to art as my moneymaker. Little did I know at the time that this was actually possible.
I graduated from McLoughlin High School in 2002 and headed to California to attend Cogswell Polytechnical College, where I am working toward a Bachelors of Arts in Computer and Video Imaging with a specialization in Character Animation. I know, a school where you basically just color all day. CRAZINESS! Unfortunately, coloring has become increasingly more complicated as I've grown older, and now you have to have a knowledge of computers, coding, animating, directing, editing, storyboarding, and on and on. It's fun.
At Cogswell, I'm trying to learn about as many aspects of digital art as possible, from concept, to lighting. I don't quite know everything yet, but I'm getting there. I'll let you know when I do.
After Cogswell, I hope to get into Leland Stanford Jr. University to obtain a Master's in Business. The purpose of such a degree is to further increase the chances of CG being a successful company. That is currently my goal and my dream.
The website you are now viewing is the start of that dream.
Now, for the important stuff. I want to thank some of the people that have played major roles in my life. Those whom I owe so much of who I am and where I'm at too. First of all, My Parents, George and Cathy. You have both been so great throughout my life. I am so fortunate to have such supportive people as parents. My sisters, Mariah and Lora (Mugri and Lolo). I love you both very much, and feel truly lucky to call you family. My beautiful girlfriend, Kim. You've been so great throughout our relationship, even through my grumpy wrestling phase. I love you so much, and am blessed having you and your terrific family in my life. My best friends Kyle and Dan. Without Kyle, I'd never be as confident or as strong a person as I am now. Thanks BDK. You've been a truly loyal friend since preschool. Dan, I think my creativity sparked when you moved to MF in the fourth grade. You've challenged me comedically, and intellectually and usually both at the same time.
Thank you.
